The Oklahoma Highway Patrol arrested a driver after chasing the SUV he was driving across Tulsa on Interstate 44.

Troopers said they found at least 20 pounds of marijuana in the Nissan Murano.

A witness told News On 6 the chase started in the eastbound lanes of I-44 near 193rd East Avenue and the driver exited at Highway 266 then headed back west on the turnpike.

It ended one mile west of the I-44/Route 66 split near the entrance to the Turner Turnpike.

The OHP says the chase began when troopers got reports that the Nissan Murano was using the shoulder to pass vehicles. Speeds reached 100 miles per hour at one point, weaving through heavy traffic at times.

One trooper used his patrol vehicle to try to stop the SUV but it continued, exiting the highway and getting back just moments later.

Troopers on foot threw down stop sticks west of the Arkansas River. The SUV ran over one of the sticks and then lost the rear tire on the driver's side.

The same trooper who had tried to stop the SUV earlier in the chase then used his vehicle in what's called the PIT maneuver to force the SUV to spin out. PIT is an acronym for pursuit intervention technique.

The SUV then crashed on westbound I-44 near Sapulpa. Troopers immediately took the driver into custody.

Troopers haven't released the name of the driver yet.

No one has reported any injuries or damage.
