Myers-Duren Harley Davidson celebrated its 100th birthday with an open house Tuesday. The business has been selling motorcycles in Tulsa for a century.
Johnny McClanahan described one of the joys of owning a motorcycle by saying, “there's always something to do and somebody to ride with.”
His family owns Myers-Duren Harley Davidson which celebrated its 100th birthday; it started selling motorcycles in 1914 down on 2nd Street.
Reba McClanahan has owned it since 1977, and in 1998 she moved it to a new building in Brookside, she said she wanted it to look art deco.
"I thought it fit in to the Tulsa area because it's known as an Art Deco city," she said.
There's lots of Harley history on the picture wall; dealership history, celebrities like Roy Clark on a Harley, The Rockettes, even KOTV - we were apparently involved with a March of Dimes ride years ago.
Tuesday's celebration had a motorcycle cake and activities for the guests. There was even a simulator that gave you a chance to ride a real Harley, shift the gears and hit the brakes.
The celebration didn't end Tuesday. They will be hosting a community wide party with free food and cake this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4848 South Peoria Avenue.
