Heavy Rains Leave Power Outages, Damage In Northeastern Oklahoma

A line of severe thunderstorms moved across northeastern Oklahoma Monday night and Tuesday. The storms produced heavy rain and brought cooler temperatures as they made their way to the east.

Forty-eight hour rain totals include 1.1 inches in Tulsa, 4.3 in Bartlesville, 4.0 in Vinita and 2.5 in Grove. Coffeyville, Kansas had 4.3, according to News On 6 WARN Team Meteorologist Mike Grogan.

Heavy rain with thunder and lightning started in the Tulsa area around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Drivers were urged to use caution and slow down as they make their morning drives. Water quickly ponded on the roadways and further limiting visibility as it splashed.

The rain was needed, but the storms also left power outages with high winds and damaging hail. Flooding concerns remain along the Verdigris River in Nowata County which may reach flood level by Wednesday morning, Grogan said.

Thunderstorms produced heavy rain as they moved across counties on either side of the Kansas-Oklahoma state line. Tuesday's storms followed on the heels of thunderstorms which produced at least two tornadoes late Monday. Those storms also caused widespread wind damage and knocked out power in the Bartlesville area.

School closings due to power outages were reported in Bartlesville and Prue, as well as some private schools.
