Three endangered Malayan tiger cubs have been born at the Tulsa Zoo. The trio were born to mom Jin and dad Gahara on August 8.
It is the second successful birth for the zoo's tiger pair, according to a news release.
Native to the Malay Peninsula, there are fewer than 500 of the tigers left in the wild due to poaching and habitat loss. The birth was in conjunction with the Species Survival Plan that manages species in Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoos in the U.S.
A sibling did not survive long after it was born, zoo officials said.
"This is not uncommon in a large litter of cubs," the news release states. Zoo staff are monitoring the surviving cubs through closed circuit cameras and say Jin is a very attentive mother.
The cubs will not be on exhibit until they are stronger. The Tulsa Zoo is about to break ground on a new tiger exhibit, Lost Kingdom: Helmerich Tiger Exhibit.
