We’re tracking a storm system this morning that will bring rain and cooler air to the region soon.  The rain may continue in many locations for the better part of the day, but we do anticipate a few breaks.  Rain cooled air in the upper 60s and lower 70s should prevail for the afternoon.  The system will exit Thursday morning leaving fine weather Friday into the weekend.

The main upper level pattern responsible for our late summer break supports a trough over the northeast and a mid-level ridge to our southwest and west.  The northerly to northwesterly flow aloft is bringing a short wave across the area today.  Its currently located across southeastern Colorado and moving southeast this morning.  A stationary boundary located to our south across Texas will develop a surface low on the boundary.  This low will migrate southeast across the Lone Star State today and tonight.  Moisture will wrap along and behind this system bringing the high likely hood of rain into the state including eastern OK today.  Model projections of precipitable water values indicate the possibility of pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall and flash flood watches are posted for part of northwestern and central OK.   Additional flash flood watches will include portions of Eastern OK, including the Tulsa county area.  This flash flood watch will go into effect at 1pm this afternoon and continue through 1pm tomorrow.  You’ll find the latest warnings and advisories posted in the “red banner” located at the top of the main weather page.  Any severe weather threat will more than likely be confined to the southwestern third of the state into [portions of northern Texas.

This system should exit the region sometime tomorrow morning, but the clouds will more than likely stick around for the majority of the day.  This would act to keep our Thursday highs in the upper 70s near 80 along with northeast winds at 10 mph.

Friday into the weekend, the main upper level pattern will not change much, but the chances for showers and storms will remain very low.  We may experience a few small showers Friday through the weekend in a few locations, but the chances will remain out of the official forecast 7 day planner for this forecast cycle.
Today's projected afternoon high in the lower 70s will qualify for a new minimum max high temp record for the day in Tulsa surpassing the old record mix max of 79.

Yesterday’s high was 92 recorded at 4:29pm.  The daily average-normal high is 94 and the low is 73.  Daily records include a high of 110 from 1986.  The record low is 55 from 1971.

You'll find me on Facebook and Twitter.

I'll be discussing the weather on numerous Radio Oklahoma News network affiliates across the state through the morning hours.

You'll also hear our forecast on Tulsa metro radio stations, including KMOD, The Twister, The Beat, and The buzz.   These stations are part of Clear Channel Communications.

Thanks for reading the Wednesday Morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great and safe day!
