Tulsa police have confirmed a shooting at a south Tulsa apartment complex after a security guard shot a man who was choking him.

It happened at The Barrington Apartments, near East 65th Street and Mingo Road around 9 p.m. on Saturday.

The security guard said he spotted four men trying to break into a vending machine at the volleyball courts on the property.

When he confronted two of them, one of the men grabbed the guard and put him in a chokehold, police said, so the guard pulled out his pepper spray and used it.

The security guard reportedly told the man, "Release me or I'll shoot," and when the man didn't comply with the demands, he pulled his gun out and shot the man in the abdomen as he was being choked, TPD says.

Police said the security guard then blacked out from being in the stranglehold, and the man who was shot stumbled away with the others.

The security guard is being checked out at a local hospital. TPD eventually caught the man he shot and he also was transported to the hospital.

Police said they have apprehended everyone involved.
