A "very large" fight between rival gangs at an East Tulsa nightclub ended with a man's death early Sunday, according to Tulsa Police. Authorities believe the man is the father of one of the gang members.
Officers were called to the 14000 block of East 21st Street after a fight broke out in the Club Imperial parking lot as the business closed around 2 a.m.
Firefighters worked to save the life of 37-year-old Jose Monzon, doing chest compressions out in the parking lot. He died from a stab wound to the chest.
Sergeant Darren Bristow told News On 6 the fight started inside the club and was broken up. When it moved outdoors, security guards again tried to intervene and one was struck by a car trying to speed away from the scene.
"The initial investigation leads us to believe that a chance meeting between two gangs at the club leads to the fight," TPD Sgt. Dave Walker said. "We have not identified the victim as being a part of any gang but is the father of some of the participants in the fight."
Police say the security guard was not injured.
Walker said witnesses are not cooperating much with police.
"The cooperation level was minimal and through the interviews we have identified two people that raise suspicion," Walker said. "At this time, there is not enough evidence to arrest anyone for this murder."
He said evidence was collected and sent to the Tulsa Police Forensic Lab for analysis.
It is the 23rd homicide of the year for Tulsa.
