Texas authorities report Robert Connor III is in custody and his son is safe, ending an Amber Alert that lasted through the overnight hours.
The Osage County Sheriff's Office issued an Amber Alert for six-year-old Declan Connor of Sand Springs boy late Tuesday. Wednesday morning, CBS-DFW in Dallas reported Lewisville Police had taken the boy's father, Robert Connor III, 38, into custody and found the boy safe.
Lewisville city jail records show Connor was held without bond just hours after he surrendered at a local motel.
Lewisville Police Captain Jay Powell says police in the Dallas-area city will coordinate with Oklahoma authorities on the Connor's return.
Osage County says Robert Connor III shot and killed his mother at a trailer home in rural Sand Springs at about 8 p.m. and then took Declan with him.
Deputies think there was an argument over money at Debi Connor's home in the 9600 block of Hidden Acres Lane before the shooting. Family members told deputies Debi Connor was found lying in the front yard.
Deputies say Declan's 10-year-old brother was home at the time. They say he is okay.
Robert's uncle, Tim Connor, told News On 6 Robert is mentally ill and has been off his medication for about three months. For that reason, the boy's grandmother took custody of Declan and another child, Tim said.
Tim Connor said Declan's mother signed over custody to Robert three or four years ago.
CBS-DFW reported that Lewisville, Texas Police announced the arrest of Robert Connor III at 7:30 a.m. at a Fairfield Inn where Connor was staying with Declan.
Lewisville Police said Declan Connor was safe and uninjured.
Lewisville, Texas is located about 20 miles northwest of Dallas.
