A Tulsa couple was arrested late Monday accused of child abuse that veteran detectives have described as "horrific."
Eulalio Rangel, 32, and Andrea Lang, 26, were booked into Tulsa County jail on complaints of child abuse and child neglect. Police say Rangel is the child's father and Lang is the stepmother.
Tulsa Police say the arrests are in connection with a 9-year-old child who was treated for multiple marks made with either a belt or a cord.
Jail records shows the victim's family described the boy's back as "something out of a horror movie," and they alerted police Sunday.
Tulsa Police began an investigation. On Monday, the boy did not go to school. Police went to the couple's home in the 6400 block of South 33rd West Avenue and arrested the couple after finding multiple injuries on the boy's back.
The marks were in "various stages of healing," some scabbed over, some seeping and some older scars.
The report states after talking to the child, police learned the boy had been tied up with belts "for extended periods of time." He told officers his stepmother tied him up with belts and shut the end of the belts in the closet door, trapping him against the door.
Both are being held in the county jail on $100,000 bond each. The couple has a court appearance set for May 20, 2013.
