Tulsa's Old City Hall has a new look and we're giving you a sneak peek before it opens.

The company that bought the building from the city redeveloped it into a hotel. Primed for a grand opening just one month away, it's hard to believe this building was nearly destined for a wrecking ball three years ago. After 18 months of construction, Tulsa's old city hall is the new Aloft Tulsa Downtown.

"Everybody wanted it torn down or thought it should be torn down, and I've heard so many people say, 'That's the ugliest building.' Then they come inside and they see the views, and what we've done with it and they're just so impressed," said Macy Amatucci.

Amatucci is with Brickhugger, LLC, the group that's already redeveloped several downtown treasures.

"The building is in great shape, so it was not nearly as much work as our renovation was with the Mayo Hotel and the Detroit Lofts," Amatucci said.

The company bought the building for a little over $1 million when the city consolidated into One Technology Center.

Tulsa resident Dee Simmons is glad to see it was salvaged.

"I love the mid-century and the modernism of it and the views. I was taken with the views from the rooms," Simmons said.

The developers kept the original marble walls and terrazzo floors and mixed them with Aloft's signature light fixtures and ceiling designs.

"We're very lucky in Tulsa to have this. This spot is perfect," Simmons said.

The hotel has 190 rooms.

Developers chose the Aloft brand, because it complimented the building's exterior and will be great for convention center business.

"The building is very mid-century modern and the Aloft brand. The design of the rooms, and even the bar furniture and lobby furniture, is very mid-century modern," Amatucci said.

The hotel is hiring and training staff, gearing up for a new future using Tulsa's past.

The grand opening for the Aloft Downtown Tulsa is May 16. Nightly rates range from $129 to $169.
