Authorities say a caller alerted Catoosa firefighters to a burning semi-trailer truck and kept a business from suffering more property damage early Sunday. The truck fire took place at Diamond S Trucking, 406 Tiger Switch Road.
"Whoever called it in really saved us cause there were several trucks right there beside it, and it could have spread to multiple trucks," said Catoosa Fire Chief Denus Benton.
Benton said crews were called into the trucking company's parking lot at about 5:45 a.m. They had some trouble accessing the fenced-in property but quickly got in to dump 1,000 gallons of water on a truck with a fully involved cab. The fire was starting to spread to the diesel fuel tanks when it was brought under control.
"The tank wasn't involved, but it was a pressurized tank on the back of the semi," Benton said. The fire chief said there was also some damage to a nearby trailer that was starting to melt.
Benton said it took about 15 minutes to get the fire out, then his crew went for more water to extinguish hot spots.
The cause of the fire and amount of damages are still under investigation.
