A 30-year-old McAlester man is dead after he was struck by a freight train while walking on railroad tracks early Friday, police say.
McAlester Police Captain Gary Wansick said engineers on the Union Pacific Railroad train notified authorities at 3:12 a.m.
The man's body was found about 400 feet from a street that cross the railroad tracks, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wansick said they have yet to determine what the man was doing walking on the tracks at that hour.
His name is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.
