Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a Green Country school principal charged with first degree manslaughter in connection with a deadly boat crash.

Shane Carroll is the suspended principal of Jay Middle School.

The Grand River Dam Authority police say Carroll was driving a boat that crashed into a barrier in Grand Lake last summer.

Monte Price was a passenger in the boat. He was thrown from it and died.

GRDA says the boat was speeding and unopened beer cans were found in and near the boat.

Carroll has been suspended without pay since late last year.

He's promised to resign if he's found guilty.
