The Tulsa Historical Society took a look Thursday at some of the mementos left behind from Bernard Elementary, following the fire that destroyed the building that most recently housed the Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences.

The building has been around since the 1920s.

When Tulsa Public Schools closed Bernard Elementary school, it donated hundreds of items, including decades of class photos, to the Historical Society.

"You know, [it's] quite a tragedy that the structure itself was lost, but I guess there might be a little bit of a silver lining, knowing that these items were taken out before the fire, and that's they're here where they're under climate controlled conditions and will be here for posterity," said archivist Ian Swart.

The Tulsa Historical Society is working on a temporary exhibit to showcase some of those items. They said it should ready sometime Friday.
