A core group of parents from Tulsa Public Schools is mobilizing to lobby the legislature for more education funding. A website called "Oklahoma Kids First" has been launched to help generate support.

The parents want more than the flat education budget that is on track for adoption in the legislature, which is causing districts statewide to eliminate jobs because of rising costs and shortfalls elsewhere.

Tulsa Public Schools in particular has complained that state funding for teachers has dropped to less than it was in 2007 while federal stimulus money that made up the gap has come to an end. In response to the flat year to year budget, TPS has trimmed 75 teachers from the budget next year.

The parents met Tuesday night to organize a "Rally for Education Funding" planned for Thursday, April 26th at 6:30 p.m. at the Edison High School Field House.
