Is Scott Sutton really interested in coaching at Nebraska? His dad, legendary coach Eddie Sutton, told the Associated Press that Scott has already interviewed with the Huskers about their coaching vacancy.
I wonder…
Would he really go to Lincoln? To coach a team that managed to go just 59-100 in conference games during its final ten seasons in the Big 12. The Huskers' first year in the Big 10 didn't go much better this season. They finished 4-14 in league play and 12-18 overall.
Sure, he could turn the program around but he's said in the past he doesn't want to go to a school that isn't:
A) one of the top two or three jobs in its league, and
B) a place you'd have to do "miracles" to get the team to the NCAA tournament.
A 173-159 overall record since 2001-02? That qualifies as miracle territory.
Is he posturing to get more serious consideration from other big time programs? Is he trying to make himself look more difficult to land for schools like, oh, I don't know, Tulsa? Is he simply, genuinely interested in moving to the Big 10 as the new head man at Nebraska?
He won't say… and that's that. Nobody can get a word out of these coaches this time of year. Tracking down a TU source is tough to do. Getting people to talk about who is going where this time of year is like pulling teeth at a piranha tank. It can't be done.
If Sutton wants to be in a bigger conference, which the AP article would suggest, then TU fans can kiss their chances of landing Sutton goodbye. TU isn't in a big, power conference. Eddie seems to be pretty clear.
Scott could be setting his sights hire than 11th and Harvard.
