Construction is scheduled to get underway this week on the $1.5 million Harbor Marina on Keystone Lake near Mannford.
Officials held a ceremony Monday afternoon to mark this development which is using public-private partnership to develop land previously owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
There are 330 miles of shoreline on Keystone Lake, but there has been very little development. Mannford Town Administrator Mike Nunneley says that will change with a new marina project.
State Source, the Tulsa company behind the Crosstimbers marina and restaurant project on Skiatook Lake, is doing it again on Keystone.
"We've got about 1.1 million visitors to this particular body of water," said Dustin Huff of State Source
That high number of visitors, and close proximity to Tulsa, prompted the new marina at the new Mannford ramp on Keystone. It will include 450 slips.
"Everything from a 22 foot runabout or pontoon, to a 110 foot houseboat, we'll be able to accommodate," Huff said.
Plans also include a ship store and restaurant, rental cottages and a heated public fishing dock.
"We want families for years to come to want to dock here, boat here and enjoy their time as a family on Keystone Lake," Huff said.
The marina will be similar in size to the groups' Skiatook Lake marina development. Both projects came about after some U.S. Army Corps of Engineer land was opened to private development.
"The demand for these lakes is just astronomical, yet the facilities, the federal government is unable to provide all of those facilities," Huff said.
Under the deal, the Corps leases property to the city of Mannford, which then subleases it to private developers.
"The only way we're going to get recreation on lakes is for private people to come in," said Mannford Town Administrator Mike Nunneley.
The city gets 1 percent of fuel sales, 1 percent of other taxable items, and its normal share of sales tax generated.
"This is probably the biggest thing that has happened in Mannford in 30 years," Nunneley said.
The Harbor Marina will include 130 boat slips, a floating restaurant and light house. It is scheduled to be open by early fall.
