OWASSO, Oklahoma -- Public Service Company of Oklahoma started installing "smart meters" for its customers in Owasso on Tuesday.
More than 13,000 homes will get new digital meters. The new meters send your usage right to PSO, which means no more meter readers in your yard.
GridSMART technology will also alert PSO when your power goes out and even start working to get power back to your home.
Another cool thing is that in about a year, customers will be able to use their smart phone to manage how much electricity they use.
"We're looking at a smart phone application they can actually see what devices are on they can change thermostats they can control switches besides from inside their house but out in a smart phone," Derek Lewellen, Project Manager, said.
The smart meter installation will take four to six weeks to complete.
