OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The University of Central Oklahoma has suspended football coach Chuck Langston over an NCAA investigation.
University President Roger Webb said Tuesday he's disappointed in the football program and that mistakes were made by Langston.
The school is facing possible NCAA sanctions after allegations arose of possible rule violations that included impermissible inducements and extra benefits provided to players.
Webb says Langston's suspension will last until September 3rd. That's two days after the Bronchos open their season at home against Lone Star Conference rival Abilene Christian. During the suspension, Langston will be required to meet with university compliance staff and review NCAA regulations and university compliance procedures.
He also won't be allowed to conduct off-campus recruiting activities for one year.
UCO defensive coordinator Steve Patterson will serve as the Bronchos' interim head coach while Langston serves the suspension.
