TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Former Oklahoma basketball and track standout Kevin Bookout is putting down the shot put and picking up the basketball again - at least for a while.
Bookout is now playing for Rio Grande Valley in the NBA Development League which is coached by former OU assistant Bob Hoffman.
Bookout was an All-American in the shot at OU and hoped to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic team in 2008 but now says that's a longshot and 2012 is more realistic.
He's back in basketball after a year away from the sport and has earned a starting spot at forward for Rio Grande.
Bookout says his timing and rhythm have been off but his defense and rebounding are as good as ever.
