COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ American Electric Power plans to build at least one ``clean-coal'' plant by 2010 in an effort to reduce pollution.
AEP provides electricity to about 11-million customers in eleven states, including Oklahoma.
The company says the plans for a clean-coal plant were developed in response to environmentalist and shareholder demands.
The plant will convert coal into a gas and pass it through pollutant-removal equipment before it's burned.
The plant could cost up to $1.6-billion.
AEP chief executive Michael Morris says no site has been chosen, but says chances are very high the plant will be built in Ohio.
