With just a couple of weeks until school starts, Tulsa Public Schools is short 50 bus drivers.

The school district says it happens every year. Across Oklahoma, districts are filling vacancies in transportation departments. Schools say low pay and short hours cause many drivers to look elsewhere.

There are 540 districts in the state.

State Education Department records show buses travel about 56-million miles each year.
