(Sapulpa-AP) -- A Creek County jury's ruling upholds a death sentence for a convicted double murderer.

Jurors deliberated about 4 hours before ruling that Robert Wayne Lambert wasn't mentally retarded before age 18.

If the jury ruled Lambert had been mentally retarded, his death sentence would have been thrown out due to a 2002 US Supreme Court ruling making the execution of retarded killers unconstitutional.

Lambert was 21 when he and Scott Hain abducted Michael Houghton and Laura Lee Sanders in Tulsa, placed them in the trunk of Sanders' car and lit it on fire in Creek County in 1987.

Lambert is now 38 years old.

Hain was executed for the murders last year.
