(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Oklahoma House's top Republican called for Democratic Representative Mike Mass to resign over his role in an illegal contribution scandal.

Minority Leader Todd Hiett demanded Mass' resignation Wednesday just after Mass admitted his role and asked for forgiveness in the House.

Mass has said he won't resign.

He's confirmed he paid a civil fine to the Federal Election Commission. The fine was for helping former Senator Gene Stipe make illegal contributions to Walt Roberts' 1988 failed campaign for Congress.

Mass was one of dozens who let Stipe donate in their names to Roberts' campaign, but he hasn't been charged in the scheme.

Stipe has been fined and sentenced to home detention, probation and community service for donating to the campaign and then trying to cover it up.
