(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Oklahoma City University Orchestra has canceled a trip to China because of the SARS virus.

School president Tom McDaniel says the university discussed the trip with Chinese promoters of the tour and delayed the decision as long as possible.

The 100-member touring party had planned to leave May 12th.

McDaniel says the university has no guarantee that the problem in China will be solved by May.

SARS has killed more than 170 people of the estimated 3-thousand people infected with the virus.

Six deaths have been reported in China's Inner Mongolia, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has advised against all non-essential travel to China.
