(Milwaukee-AP) -- A Milwaukee boxer who fought the legendary ``Sugar'' Ray Robinson has died.

Ted Olla Senior succumbed to complications from Alzheimer's Disease on Wednesday at 71. That's according to his son Ted Olla.

Known for his rugged style, Olla made a name for himself in the state as an amateur before turning pro. His greatest moment came when he fought Robinson in 1955 during the middleweight's comeback to boxing.

In the fight with Robinson, the boxing great stopped Olla in the third round to score a technical knockout.

After the loss, Olla retired from boxing and became a Las Vegas poker dealer.

Olla began fighting professionally in 1949 ... one year after he won the Wisconsin Golden Gloves middleweight novice title.

A private service will be held tomorrow.
