A Tulsa hospital is getting its new emergency room ready. Our cameras got a peek at the new Milann H Siegfried Emergency Center at St John Medical Center.
The new ER is twice the size of the old one, with more space for trauma patients. Dr Charles Farmer with St John Medical Center, "when we opened the old emergency department in 1975 we saw approx 32,000 to 33,000 patients and right now we are seeing almost 47,000 patients. It's very cramped, the patients have no privacy, and they’re separated by curtains. Coming the emergency department is never a good experience but we're going to try to make it as nice as possible."
The new ER has more than 30 private rooms, a new patient tracking system, state of the art equipment and family rooms. Hospital officials say it should all be more efficient and get patients in and out faster.
