Oklahoma City-AP) -- Oklahoma used to be a major player in the nation's boxing arena.
The administrator of the Oklahoma Professional Boxing Commission wants the state to be a boxing power again.
Steve Bashore says he's tired of watching boxing go down the drain in the state.
Oklahoma staged 39 boxing matches in 1990 -- the fifth highest total in the country. The state staged only one match in 1998.
Last year, Oklahoma staged 14 events. This year, Oklahoma has hosted eight matches, including two in Oklahoma City.
Tulsa boxing promoter Tony Holden says the state is now the top two or three in the nation in boxing activity.
