STILWELL, Okla. (AP) -- A convicted child rapist was back in custody Tuesday, one day after overpowering an Adair County jailer.

Jack Lowe, 38, was taken into custody without incident after he was found walking down a highway near Stilwell. He escaped Monday morning, authorities said.

Lowe was serving a 200-year sentence at the Oklahoma State Reformatory at Granite for child rape. But he was returned to Adair County last week to stand trial for the rape of a 9-year-old girl by knifepoint. He was convicted and the jury recommended 1,000 years in prison.
