TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Former Tulsa coach and player Jim King will be the fifth Golden Hurricane to have his basketball jersey retired. The No. 24 that King wore will be retired at halftime of the Hurricane's home game against Fresno State on Feb. 24.

King, 59, follows former Tulsa basketball players Bob Patterson, Paul Pressey, Steve Harris and Shea Seals to be honored. "I am thrilled because my kids can enjoy it," King said.

As a 6-foot-2 guard, King led the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring with a 20.8 point average as a junior for Tulsa in the 1961-62 season. He was drafted in the second round by the Los Angeles Lakers and played 10 years for four teams in the NBA. His best year was with San Francisco in 1967-68 when he led the league in scoring for two months and was named to the All-Star team.

After retiring in 1973, he coach Athletes in Action for two seasons. King became Tulsa's head coach in 1975, where he had a 44-82 record in 4 2/3 seasons. He was inducted into the Hurricane's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984.
