Baylor University is grieving tonight over the deaths of four students in a tragic accident that occurred in College Station.
A total of six people were killed and two were injured early Sunday when a pickup ran off Farm Road Sixty around midnight and plowed into a group of students. The students were in front of the Tau Kappa Epsilon house when the vehicle hit them. They were getting ready to go to a party at the house, witnesses say. Large puddles of blood and pieces of mangled chrome were still visible this afternoon.
Baylor President Robert B. Sloan released a statement this afternoon asking the student body, faculty and staff to pray for those touched by the loss.
Baylor students that died in the accident are: 18-year-old Tricia Calp of Houston, 22-year-old Dolan Wostal of Alvin, Texas, 18-year-old Emily Hollister of South Bend, Ind. Erika Lanham, whose age and hometown was unavailable. 21-year-old Texas A & M student Ted Bruton of San Angelo, Texas, and 22-year-old Southwest Texas State University student William Flores of San Marcos, Texas were also killed.
Five people died at the scene. Miss Lanham died after being transported to a local hospital.
The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old A & M student Brandon Kallmeyer of Katy, Texas, apparently fell asleep at the wheel. He was not injured and alcohol did not appear to be a factor, police say.
Police have referred the case to Brazos County prosecutors without recommending charges against Kallmeyer.
