Not Your Typical Car Lot

Ever think you wanted to own one of those beautifully restored classic cars? The News On 6â€™s Rick Wells reports thereâ€™s a car lot in Oneta that just may have the fixer upper you've been looking for.

Jim Hardcastle operates the Country Corner Classic Car Lot in Oneta. It's kind of specialized beyond a used car kind of place.

"Let's go look at the old bootleggerâ€™s car," he said.

He's got a â€˜53 Ford Victoria that once belonged to a bootlegger in Virginia.

"They said he lived back in those hills, that's the story I got when I got the car," Hardcastle said.

"Does that make the car easier to sell?" asked News On 6 reporter Rick Wells.

â€œNawww!! It's just something you get,â€ said Hardcastle.

"Something to tell the TV guy when he shows up?" asked Wells.

"Yeah," Hardcastle responded.

The â€˜53 Victoria has held up pretty well over the years. Hardcastle says there's some body rust, but no significant rust in the trunk, that's were the guy carried his booze.

Hardcastle rebuilt and restored cars for years but says it's easier now to find them and sell them to others to do the work. Out in his shop is what you'd have to call a gem, a red '55 Thunderbird, he found it in a guy's barn.

"He just had a cover on it, he had deer sacks and feed sack just lying up all over it," said Hardcastle.

The lot's full of cars and trucks waiting for a new life. Hardcastle knows he'll sell them when the right somebody comes along.

"Somebody decides he can't live without it," he said.
