Bonds Hits 736th Career Homer

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Barry Bonds hit the 736th home run of his career Friday night in the city where he began his career 21 years ago, a two-run drive in the second inning against Pirates left-hander Zach Duke.

Duke became the 436th pitcher to allow a Bonds homer when the San Francisco Giants left fielder hit a line drive just inside the foul pole down the right-field line at PNC Park.

Bonds needs just 20 more homers to break Hank Aaron's career record.

The drive was Bonds' second of the season and came in the Giants' 10th game this year. He was off to a slow start -- he carried a .192 average into the game -- until he singled and homered in his first two at-bats Friday.

Of those 736 homers, 95 have been hit in Pittsburgh: 89 in Three Rivers Stadium, where he played from 1986-92, and six in 38 at-bats in PNC Park, which opened in 2001.
