OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The attorney for a former University of Oklahoma quarterback Charles Thompson says he'll appeal Thompson's conviction on a misdemeanor public drunkenness charge.
Thompson was convicted after three police officers testified they responded to several noise complaints at a western Oklahoma City hotel and found Thompson smelling of alcohol and belligerent.
Thompson and witnesses in the hotel room testified there was no alcohol in the room and that Thompson had not been drinking.
Defense attorney Michael Johnson says the charge is an unjustified attack on Thompson's character and integrity and he plans to appeal.
Thompson led OU to an 11-and-1 record in 1987 but was arrested two years later on charges of selling cocaine to undercover FBI agents.
