NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ University of Oklahoma President David Boren is recovering after undergoing surgery today for a herniated disc.

University officials say Boren was hospitalized Tuesday with severe back pain.

OU Health Sciences Center surgeon Dr. Brock Schnebel says the surgery went smoothly and he expects Boren to be fine.

Boren cannot have visitors and will be hospitalized for a few days, followed by six weeks of recuperation before resuming his duties full time.
