OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Governor Brad Henry today issued an outdoor burn ban for six counties in southeastern Oklahoma.
The ban encompasses Bryan, Choctaw, Latimer, LeFlore, McCurtain and Pushmataha counties. It will remain in effect until further notice.
Outdoor campfires are allowed under the ban if they have a noncombustible fire ring with a distance of at least five feet from the nearest wildland fuels, such as grass and leaves.
Gas and charcoal grilling also are excluded from the ban.
Violations of the ban are misdemeanors punishable by as much as a $500 fine and one year in prison.
