A metro food delivery driver's angry outburst inside a northwest Oklahoma City restaurant was caught on camera. The vandalism suspect reportedly caused more than a thousand dollars in damage at Seafood Party restaurant near Northwest 36th Street and Classen Boulevard.
Oklahoma City police investigators learned the suspect was a Grubhub delivery driver. Department officials said she will likely face a misdemeanor complaint for destroying private property.
Police posted the video on the department’s Facebook page asking the public to help identify the driver.
“A lot of people recognized her,” Oklahoma City Police Department MSgt. Gary Knight said. “Several Grubhub drivers also recognized her and reached out to us.”
Police said the suspect walked into the restaurant on March 26 to pick up food and had a disagreement with an employee.
The argument took an unexpected turn.
“The argument goes on for a couple of minutes before she decides to leave,” said Knight. “But not before grabbing a handful of menus and slinging them across the room and then shoving a computer screen off of the counter onto the floor where it smashed.”
Restaurant management told police the computer was worth $1,400 and they have not been able to replace it since the incident.
A restaurant manager said on Friday they immediately called Grubhub to get the driver's name for the police report, but the business would not give it to them. The restaurant has since canceled its business with the food delivery service.
Grubhub sent News 9 a statement in response to the investigation:
"We have zero tolerance for driver misconduct. As soon as we became aware of this incident, we launched a thorough investigation and terminated the driver's contract, and we are cooperating with local authorities. The vast majority of our orders are completed without incident or complaint, but when things don’t go as planned, we appreciate hearing feedback and work hard to resolve successfully with our restaurants, drivers and diners.”
Police have also identified the suspect.
“We can’t release her name until a warrant is issued,” said Knight. “Or charges are filed on the case or she’s arrested.”
The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office will ultimately decide if charges are filed against the driver.
