Oklahoma City is seeing how far its relief plan for small businesses will go after more than 600 applied for assistance.

The Alliance for Economic Development is overseeing the small business support program.

Just over $5 million is available in low and no interest and forgivable loans.

However, those 603 businesses are requesting $20 million in relief.

There is a disbursement committee that will decide how much is allocated and to which businesses.

Checks are expected to go out May 8.

“There are a lot business, for whatever reason, that didn't apply for one of the federal programs or they applied for both because the need the help,” said Cathy O’Connor, Alliance for Economic Development president.

O’Connor said she isn’t sure if City Council will add more money to the program.

The main requirement for small businesses in Oklahoma City to receive aid from the city program was having a 50% loss in revenue.
