Little League Baseball Resumes In Oklahoma With New Procedures

This is the first weekend of organized sports returning in Phase 2 of Governor Stitt's re-opening plan, and teams did not waste any time getting back on the field.

Youth baseball organizations held tournaments across the state. 

Thirty-eight teams competed in a Blanchard tournament, all with hand sanitizer in their dugouts.

“It’s the new norm,” Blanchard Little League Tournament Coordinator Russel Britton said.

For Britton, the new norm is playing ball while trying to keep the teams and their fans safe.

The new norm means getting extra hand washing stations, cleaning restrooms more frequently, asking people to bring their own chairs and encouraging people to wear masks.

Similar measures were taken at a tournament in Tuttle.

“Following CDC practices, trash cans don’t have lids on them anymore,” Tuttle City Manager Tim Young said. “We’ve limited the menus at the concession stands and are trying our best to minimize touching things.”

As for the players, they’re just happy to be back.

“It’s really fun playing,” first grader Kale Elledge said. “I missed being on the field.”
