A local group is accepting applications for free air conditioning units to install in homes that need it.

The Tulsa Weather Coalition, who is providing the AC units, has been around since 1980 and was formed after 13 Tulsans died of heat-related illnesses.

The coalition wanted to find a way to help people who don’t have air conditioning in their home. Program Manager Melinda Belcher said qualifications include living in Tulsa County, having no air conditioning, having low income, and having a medical note if under the age of 65.

“I’m glad we can help people. I can’t imagine your air conditioning not working at home with how hot it is,” said Belcher.

You can call 211 to be connected to the coalition’s line.
