Another day with another chance for a few storms before the heat and humidity again take center stage.

Storms last night across the high plains of Texas and northwestern OK are moving northeast into north-central OK early this morning.

Rain Zone This Morning

This system may keep a few storms going through the early morning hours to our northwest, including the threat of a few storms producing winds near 50 to 60 mph. Our probabilities remain along the I-35 corridor from north-central OK into south-central Kansas. The leading edge of this system could clip part of Payne, Pawnee, Kay and Osage counties early this morning.

Rain Zone

A weak surface boundary is still positioned across northern OK, along the I-44 corridor, and could also support a developing storm this morning, but additional chances would come later this afternoon or evening as the boundary lifts into southern Kansas. Our forecast will keep a slight chance for a storm near the metro, not only this morning but also later this evening, but higher chances will occur northward along the OK-Kansas state line region. Any storms could be severe with hail and wind issues.

Highs For Today

Otherwise, more heat and humidity will be the main concern for the next few days as the mid-level ridge of high pressure, currently centered southwest of the state, finally expands northward taking the active flow pattern to our north for the weekend. This should bring hot and dry weather into the entire state this weekend.

Some local drying is possible regarding low level moisture, but I would anticipate heat index values remaining near advisory levels for the next few days. Some data (the GFS) support a weakness on the northern side of the ridge Tuesday and Wednesday allowing for a few storms during this period. We’ll mention these in the 7-day planner and use low probabilities for now.

Storm chances for most of northeastern and eastern OK will remain low, but a few locations, mostly north will have higher chances.

Thanks for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
