Guthrie Organization Hosts Christmas In July Toy Run

We could all use a little Christmas spirit right now, and there was plenty of that in Guthrie Saturday, along with a fair amount of motorcycles.

Santa was in his summer sleigh, lending a holiday hand to the Operation Christmas Train Set Foundation's Christmas in July Toy Run.

"I'm out here, it's 90 degrees and it's worth every drop of sweat I put into this," Santa says.

Santa and his shades endured the summer heat while bikers, which included News 9 reporter Aaron Brilbeck, donated toys and money.

They rode from Guthrie to Kingfisher, all to make sure Santa's Christmas Eve ride is fully stocked.

"So we can make sure those kids can have something under the tree. That Santa didn't let them down because of shortage," says Operation Christmas Train Set Foundation CEO Dustin Fisher.

For Fisher, that mission is personal.

His family experienced hard times during the oil bust of the 80's.

"Another family helped my parents give me Christmas, that's the reason why I'm here, is because someone helped me when I was a kid, and I want to give that back to kids."

And while 2020 may seem like the nightmare before Christmas, it will not be the year without a Santa Claus, according to old St. Nick himself.

"Of course, I haven't missed a year yet!"
