Early voting continues at the Tulsa County Election Board; and if you are heading to the polls, it will look a little different due to COVID-19.
Election Board Secretary Gwen Freeman said it’s been difficult to prepare for elections in the middle of a pandemic, and the safety of both voters and poll workers is a top priority.
Freeman said polling sites are following the guidelines set by the CDC. PPE will be given to poll workers, and they’ll be wearing masks. The election board is asking voters to wear masks. Voting stations will be distanced and will be sanitized frequently.
Voters may experience a longer wait, and Freeman said that’s in part because of the physical distancing efforts and because there are several new people working this election cycle.
“A lot of the folks that are showing up to work at our polls are new and, we think, they’re heroes because they actually took the place of some of our older workers that needed to sit this election out,” said Freeman.
Freeman said before you head out to vote, make sure to double check your polling location to make sure it hasn’t changed.
