After days of contentious county meetings over the last few weeks, a group says Oklahoma County Commissioner Kevin Calvey has got to go.

His term is not up until 2023 and removing him from office would not be easy.

“This is the time to hold public officials accountable,” Hanna Royce said.

She said her group will begin collecting signatures for a recall petition next week.

However, there is no legal framework in state law to recall a county commissioner.

A senate bill that would have allowed a citizen petition to do so failed in 1992.

The group could gather signatures to prompt an attorney general investigation. If a signature threshold is met, the AG would investigate accusations of willful neglect to perform duties, public intoxication or breaking a law involving moral turpitude.

If violations were found, the dispute would go before a judge where the elected official could be removed from office.
