Two teachers at Cross Timbers Elementary school have tested positive for COVID-19, Edmond Public Schools announced Friday.
The district said both teachers participated in professional development on August 19. One of the teachers also participated in a “Meet The Teacher” event that same day in the school cafeteria.
Susan Parks-Schlepp, a public information officer for the district, said in a release the teacher met with five students, but all reportedly wore face masks.
News 9 has learned that one of the students posed for a picture with the teacher and is now in quarantine.
That same teacher later realized she had lost her sense of taste and notified the school principal. She was advised to leave the school at that time and get tested, according to Parks-Schlepp.
Through contact tracing it was discovered a second teacher, who was asymptomatic, was also positive for the virus.
Once the school was notified of the positive cases the building was disinfected and the affected rooms also received an air treatment using an ozone machine.
The district said only one student will have to quarantine at this time, however no operations will close. Both teachers are self-isolating for a 10-day period.
