Oklahoma City police opened an investigation into the city’s 40th homicide case this year.
A body was found Friday morning just south of the Oklahoma River but no arrests have been made, according to police.
Investigators were quickly able to identify the victim as 24-year-old Paul Garrison.
They are asking the public to come forward if they have any information about his finals moments.
The city's latest homicide investigation started near SW 8th and McKinley. The street sees very little traffic, but just after 2 a.m., a person noticed something unusual here.
“Somebody did call in and indicate that there’s a person in the roadway,” said Master Sgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “And thought police should check on them and that’s when officer arrived and found the man deceased at the scene.”
It started as a check the welfare call, but when officers got there, they knew foul play was involved. Homicide investigators and crime scene investigators were called out to collect evidence that may have been left near the body.
“He had injuries that were consistent with being a homicide victim,” said Knight. “It did not appear to be an auto-pedestrian crash or anything like that. (It) appeared to be intentionally killed.”
Police did not release the cause of Garrison’s death because it is still early in the investigation.
They are asking for witnesses or passersby to report any suspicious activity they may have noticed.
“Even if it’s a small piece of information it could be a piece that helps break the case for us,” said Knight.
