Bixby community members visited Washington Irving park where an actual beam from one of the twin towers sits in a tribute area.

The Daughters of the American Revolution and Carolyn Thornton organize the 9/11 ceremony at Washington Irving Park every year.

The guest speakers are different every year to show the impact that the terrorist attacks had on so many.

Event Organizer Carolyn Thornton said, “If you were alive then you know exactly where you were it's one of those kinds of events. It's just good to share."

The color guard consists of Bixby high schoolers and the ceremony starts at the same time every year.

“The time of day, you try to coordinate it with when the events happened in New York City,” said Thornton.

The Community said having the I-beam there, really makes the attack hit home.

The monument has been in the park since 2002.
