Fall is here, which means deer season is less than two weeks away and some of Oklahoma’s public hunting land is getting a little makeover before opening day.

More than 30 volunteers with Oklahoma Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers packed the public land at Heyburn Wildlife Management Area near Bristow over the weekend.

Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is group of sportsmen and women dedicated to conservation efforts -- like improving wild public lands, water and wildlife.

The group spent all day Saturday helping remove trash that people had illegally dumped on public land. They primed and painted gates around some of the new parking lots at Heyburn WMA, as well.

They also spent some time at Lexington WMA near Oklahoma City where they help clear overgrown vegetation and remove cedars.

The group says it’s already looking forward to future volunteer days.
