The Norman Public School Board voted to bring students back to traditional in-person classes through phases over the next three weeks.
Starting Monday, September 28, NPS said elementary school students will be back in the classroom full time. Middle school students will begin to come back into the buildings, but on an alternate schedule. High schoolers will continue to learn virtually from home.
The following week, starting on October 5, elementary and middle schoolers will be back in the classroom while high school students start their alternate schedule.
After Fall Break, the board said all students will be back in the classroom by October 12.
The district said blended and virtual options are still available to students.
Earlier this week, some Norman parents and students picketed, fighting to get back to school in person. Teachers advocated to keep virtual classes going.
“We just want them to know that we want our voices to be heard too,” said NPS parent Lindsey Cromwell, during that protest.
“We didn’t sign up to get a deadly virus,” argued Maren Eliason, a teacher at Irving Middle School.
NPS’s plans may change if Cleveland County shows up in the red, or “high” level, on the COVID-19 Alert System.
