Union Public Schools has reported active COVID-19 cases with students and staff testing positive.

The district has a mandatory mask policy in place for students who chose to lean in-person. About one-third of high students are enrolled in the district's virtual academy.

When a positive case is reported the district begins contact tracing.

John Federline, Union Director of Secondary Education said, "We've had several instances where we've asked kids without symptoms to go home and quarantine and several days later they've tested positive, so in that sense, our system is working."

As of Wednesday Union reported 43 current positive cases with 155 people at home in quarantine, for the district of 10,000 students and 2,000 staff.

10 of the cases are from Union's high school.
